Swimming is Therapeutic for the Body, Mind, & Soul!
Do you have an activity that you love so much you could spend every day of your life doing it? Think about it; what would this activity be?
For me, without hesitation, this activity is swimming.
How Can You Encourage Your Friends to Get Healthy?
I have decided to start a new feature on my blog, “Question of the Day.” Every so often, I am posed questions; I thought I would start to share these periodically with you before doing related follow-up posts.
I was emailed a question this week that I have heard many times; I would appreciate your input.
The email was from a reader who has a friend who has been struggling with living a healthy lifestyle for several years; as a result, the friend is severely overweight. The reader wants to be supportive and a good friend to the other.
Healthy Campus Initiative
My question to you is: Why is participation in physical education class not a important/valued part of the curriculum in every faculty of the universities and colleges in Canada? I think this lack of physical activity for our students needs to be changed. The focus of post-secondary educational institutions is on academics, which is very important. However, participation in physical activity allows the students to promote physical and psychological well-being and to stay healthy. More importantly, it causes the students to be more well-rounded members of society. Every post-secondary educational institution in Canada is equipped with adequate athletic facilities. Why not make it mandatory for each student to take part in some sort of physical education class while on-campus?
Inactivity Crisis
So I’ve realized today that I do a lot of sitting during the day… I mean I sit in the car to work and all day at my computer/desk job and then drive home. For an active person like me, this is a whole lot of inactivity. This is not only happening to me, I see it happen to many people in Canada. I try to counter this with going for a long workout later in the evening or trying to move as much as possible during the day. I’m trying to think of ways to improve my inactivity. Any suggestions????
