Surround Yourself with Positive People

Every individual that was interviewed for my series, myself included, has stressed the importance of social support in pursuing their passion. Friends and family help you persevere through the setbacks.

You will have many obstacles in your path. So, it is essential to your success to surround yourself with people who cope with these obstacles in a positive rather than a negative manner.

I encountered an “obstacle” in my life this past week with the death of my dog, Sable. I am so blessed for all the support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! You have helped me to cope with her passing a positive and healthy manner.

From this experience, I learned a lot about life and relationships. A true test of friendship is who remains with you when you are low.  Even though you think you may be surrounded by positive people, you may not uncover the truth until an obstacle arises.  People always want to be around successful individuals; however, when you are struggling, are they around to help you get back up?

The way individuals demonstrate their support for you can vary, but the important facts are that they are present (either online or offline) and show that they care.

It can be hard to invest in individuals where the energy and effort are not reciprocated.

These are the friends, family members, etc., who always want you to be there for them but when you are in need they put in no or minimal effort. The focus is always on them.

For example, I told someone this week about the passing of dog and they were quick to change the topic and talk about themselves.  This situation of switching it back to themselves happens on multiple occasions. Times like this make you consider if they really value you as a person.

From experience, remove yourself from situations where you may have to deal with negative people who can be toxic for you. It may be hard to do but is very important for your mental health and personal development. There will be enough setbacks in life, do you really think you can achieve success by constantly surrounding yourself with people who discourage your vision?

Therefore, my lesson of the day is to follow your passion and surround yourself with positive like-minded people!

HAPPY THURSDAY EVERYONE!!!!
