Growth is a Process

December is always a time of reflection for me. Therefore, to gather my thoughts and reflect on what I learned over the past year, I decided to go for a walk in the forest. On my walk, I found a very tall tree and decided to stop and think. As a nature lover, whenever I see a tall tree, the term “growth” comes to mind. Growth of any kind is a process, whether it be individually or collectively.

(c) Arianna's Random Thoughts

Suddenly, Henry David Thoreau’s passage came to mind, “It’s not what you look at it that matters; it’s what you see.”  On prior walks, I have admired the height of the trees; but on this walk, I was focused on the base of the tree. Many of us often think of the tree standing tall and supporting itself all alone, yet the support of the roots may be forgotten or unnoticed by onlookers.  My focus on the base of the tree and the presence of the supportive root system on my walk reminded me of how grateful I am throughout my life to have an amazing network of people who support and care for me.

So often in life we can become so focused in strengthening ourselves that we neglect to nurture a strong network.  Having a supportive root system will help us stand tall! Thank you, tall tree, for helping me see the importance of strong roots. I am grateful for your presence on my walk.

** Be sure to check out a new Speaking From the Heart Interview on Thursday and the follow up to this post next Monday :)

Why do you think a supportive root system is important to help you maintain your balance in life? Describe experience(s) that speak to this. Who are your supportive roots in your life? What do they do to help you stand tall?

Thank you for reading and your presence at this beach retreat. You Rock! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the comment section below.
