Showing Courage in Our Lives

Is there a common theme to the life lessons you are learning lately? I find that when I’m being taught something important, the message is usually repeated in different situations throughout my life. That way, I’ll pay attention – even if I don’t want to!

This happened recently at a personal development seminar where I was a participant.  We were asked to list personal obstacles in our life journeys. Like a reflex, I wrote down ‘COURAGE’ and circled it. Though I didn’t understand why this word mattered to me, I was soon to get inklings.

Participants were asked to discuss the meaning behind what they had written down with others close by.  We helped one another; I was shown that my ‘courage’ meant developing the strength to speak my story on a general level.

When it came time to volunteer our insights to the larger audience, I didn’t share my story like others; I remained quiet. To my fellow participants, I may have appeared to lack the courage to showcase my struggles with the larger group. In fact, though, I was showing an even greater personal strength – the courage to choose when and with whom I would speak; the strength to know that sometimes, I can choose not to speak, and that’s okay!

Sometimes we just have times when we want to sit, reflect, and listen. That is what I did at the seminar. When I came home from that event, I started reflecting on where, and when, I needed to showcase courage in my life.

After much thought, I realized there has been a common theme running through my life recently.  Stay tuned to the next post as I share what I found out about myself and what important lesson I learned.

What lessons are you being taught recently? I encourage you to reflect.
