The Importance of Sisters

People have many roles in their lives.  I became aware of all my roles when I had to write them down one day in class. For example, this is what I came up with:

- daughter, sister, grand-daughter, niece, friend, colleague, athlete, student, etc.

The one that stuck out to me that I have really examined the importance of recently was that of a sister.  I have always been the eldest sister to two younger beautiful sisters.  I think that because of the fact that I'm older than them I have always been very protective of them.

A book one of my sisters gave me describes it perfectly "My sister (s) are my best friends. Oh, of course we used to fight when we were younger. As sisters, we had the right to pick on each other, but let anyone else try it, and automatically it became us against them. There is some unwritten rule between sisters that you are there for each other, no matter what the situation" (Barbour, 2003).

I would say this quote applies to my biological and unbiological sisters who I couldn't live without.  My unbiological ones know who you are :)

I guess that is one of the reasons why I want to work in a sense in the role of being a sister to society. I want to help protect other girls and women from being victimized for being strong, beautiful women.

P.S. Brothers and all other roles are important too :)
